The Hippo Bait Tour of 2001

In September, 2001, I traveled with a few good friends (Mike, Colleen, Tod, Kelly, Dennis, Brent, Joy, George, & Sheri) on a 17-day adventure into the wilds of southern Africa.  Beginning with 3 days in Botswana at the Duba Plains campsite on the Northern Okavango Delta, we ventured on for 3 days at Kings Pool, and then a 1-night stay in Zimbabwe to see Victoria Falls (the world's largest waterfall).

The permanent campsites at the beginning of our trip had been the height of luxury, compared with the next 3 days we spent canoeing 150 kilometers (93 miles) through the Mana Pools National Park (aka the Zambezi River) dodging crocs & hippos in 18-foot canoes!  Our guide Andy got us through relatively unscathed, although there were some "exciting" moments.  The final stop was the Selati camp within the Sabi Sand Game Preserve, adjacent to Kruger National Park in South Africa.  Each of these pages holds just a few of the photos from our trek.  (click on each picture to visit that campsite)
